Writing one myself for Games Tribune mag at the moment. I recently got the game too and I love it, even though I absolutely suck at shmups. But unlike Redux: Dark Matters, Neo XYX delivered as promised. Nothing more, nothing less. I would have loved a couple more game modes, but the screen options are a nice bonus. By the way, do you know if they're available in the Neo Geo version as well??

Re: Redux: Dark Matters finally hits the nostalgic button on our Dreamcast

You know, I'm also a writer for spanish multiplatform mag Games Tribune, and I wrote a 6-page review for this game too. Our mag is out tomorrow. I've done my best to be fair and unbiased but also to warn people about this. They're not only letting people down, they're losing their trust on their future projects and also damaging indie projects by other small dev teams that may be looking for fundings in the same way.

Re: GDC 2014: Vlambeer talks live streaming game development

Very nice.

Re: Redux: Dark Matters finally hits the nostalgic button on our Dreamcast

I agree. I would liked to have seen some DC screens as well. Short of me taking a picture of the screen with my camera, there was nothing I could do as well, as I don't own a capture card.

That's why I wanted to be clear in the review that what I was seeing was a bit different from the image above.

Re: Redux: Dark Matters finally hits the nostalgic button on our Dreamcast

It's not only that the DC was design for CRTs: also Redux features exactly half the resolution the original Dux had. Yes, Dux 1.0 and 1.5 feature neat, crisp 480p while this 3rd revision of the game went a setp backwards in the graphics department. Not a single real, honest screenshot from the DC version has been shown by the creators. All pics and videos are captured from the (HD) PC version. None of this was even hinted at during the Kickstarter campaign or the whole year of delays and misinformation that followed.

Re: Armless Octopus Video Review: State of Decay

I LOVED this game when it first came out. I spent at least 20 hours playing it, and have no idea about where the time went.

My only frustration came from the fact that I felt I was constnatly doing something wrong. I would have failed missions, but I suppose that had to do with picking and choosing what worked best for me.

Hopefully a number of the bugs have been fixed, too.

Re: Rain World

You're right, if it plays smoothly then this will definitely be worth keeping an eye on.

Re: A new challenger enters the indie-game publishing space

Hey, the more publishers in the indie space, the merrier, as far as I'm concerned!

Re: A new challenger enters the indie-game publishing space

Sweet, we need more awesome indie publishers like Devolver Digital. You're right -- time for a change.

Yeah, the game was certainly enjoyable in many parts, but the lack of a solid save system is really a deal breaker

Re: PC Vs. So simple to find out if your PC runs a game. Sign up, enter PC specs, and BAM! Every game you look up shows if it runs or not

Re: Charlie Murder Review: Bloody Murder

If you quit out of the game instead of shutting it off after you saw "Area Cleared", would it have saved the game? This same 'bug' happened in our Decimation X3 indie game, where a player would shut down the system as soon as they got their score, not realizing the game is still in progress until you click out, and only then is the score saved. There were a few work arounds, but we left it as it was.

Re: Shadowrun Returns, but not at full speed

I had high hopes for this game. And after discovering the merchant, you're compelled to wait a little longer to see what that nets you, and then the magic happens. Because of it's text-based design, I'd compare it to Zork, which really depends on your imagination to figure out how to make progress.

It's obviously not for everybody, and it leads to RPG conventions that people who don't enjoy the genre won't appreciate. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with a game like this that will be passed along by word of mouth and that friends will give you hints about.

Re: Candy Box Review: The Sweetest Thing

I'd have to say that a game that gives you options to do something with no other hints and then penalizes you for using them is badly designed.
